We Are To Blame is a Swedish alternative melodic metal band based in Gällivare, known for blending heavy instrumentation with atmospheric production and emotionally driven, pop-influenced vocals. Formed in 2020 by vocalist Alice Hartvig and guitarist/vocalist Johan Karlsson, the band’s sound is rooted in contrast—merging metal intensity with melodic accessibility.

This duality became the foundation of their early work, most notably in the Duality EPs. Duality I (2022) introduced a genre-blending approach to alternative melodic metal, combining soaring clean vocals with heavy guitars and occasional harsh elements. Its follow-up, Duality II, expanded their sonic range, balancing aggressive instrumentation with layered, melodic arrangements and further establishing their identity as a band capable of uniting heaviness with emotional depth.

The project later evolved into a full band with the addition of Sebastian “Seppo” Lindgren, Oliver Älmeros, and Marcus Lillsebbas. This expanded lineup brought greater musical complexity and energy, shaping a more dynamic and personal sound.

This progression led to the release of Women in This World, the lineup’s live debut at Sweden Rock Festival 2024, and the Altar EP. While retaining their melodic core, Altar marks a stylistic evolution, taking the next musical step while remaining true to their foundation.

Balancing melody, aggression, and atmosphere, We Are To Blame continue to push beyond genre boundaries, establishing themselves as a distinctive voice in the modern melodic metal landscape.
